Ticket Forgiveness - How to Avoid Paying Too Much For Traffic Violations

One way the state of California has given drivers a break on the high cost of tickets is making available traffic school as an option. Myth or Fact -Even if you go to traffic school you'll still have to pay for the ticket which can run you hundreds, even thousands of dollars, depending on the violation, but once you've completed traffic school you won't be charged on your car insurance - you've stopped the bleeding. But what if you don't want to take this option or you're not eligible, you pay the price of the ticket and then your car insurance goes up even more for the next three years.

An example is a single, minor violation can raise your premium by $475 for a year. Over just three years, you will have spent $1,425 more for your car insurance!

Some of the limitations in California involve, once you attend traffic school, you can't do this again for eighteen months (each state has different rules so please check with your DMV). If you go to traffic school one summer, then the following spring you get a speeding ticket because it's too soon to go to school again, you used to get hit with a "double whammy," having to pay a steep fine and getting hit with an increase in your car insurance, too.

Today's ticket forgiveness on car insurance means that your insurance company will not charge you for one ticket, even if you've attended traffic school in the past. Here's an example: You get pulled over and get a speeding ticket, you go to school. Then six months later you get a stop sign violation, you can't use the school option but you do have the forgiveness plan on your insurance - your rates will not go up! It can add up to a great deal of savings, as you can see in the above example. But remember, this does not come automatically, you have to add it to your car insurance policy.

Tip: If you are a California traffic school graduate, please review your auto insurance policy to make sure you have the forgiveness program built in, so that you are protected from a policy increase during those crucial eighteen months when you are not allowed by law to repeat traffic school.

Saving California Commercial/Truck Drivers Cash on Insurance

Obviously, there is a lot for a CDL truck driver to worry about, so California truck drivers will be relieved to know that Allstate accident forgiveness program can at least keep the cost of insurance reasonable. As mentioned above, California law lets most drivers attend traffic school for a minor speeding ticket or moving violation in exchange their insurance won't go up. Unfortunately, CDL drivers aren't given this option in California. But ticket forgiveness through insurers such as Allstate, the first auto insurance company to offer these options in the state of California, can keep rates lower for professional truck drivers by not raising rates after the first ticket.

You'll also get the deductible reward program: $100 off of your collision deductible immediately and then another $100 every year after that (up to 5 years).
